Just to take a break from weddings and engagement photos it’s nice to spend some time to shoot something different. I talked to my old Laguardia (LAG in the house!) friend Nelie about doing some photos that she could use to promote her music career and we both liked the idea of doing something in Brooklyn. This was perfect since she lives there and I’m from there so for a long time I’ve been been meaning to get back there for a shoot.
A really long time ago when I was studying photography when I lived in Brooklyn, I remember running around town with a Pentax K1000 (old film camera) shooting everywhere. It was very raw, unplanned and I loved the feeling. I used to take my friends to the Brooklyn Bridge, the South Street Seaport and through the subways to practice shooting. I wanted to do something like this that took me back to that. So one day that Ihad some other business to take care of in NYC I met up with Nelie and we ran through BK for her session.
This was a fun shoot but I forgot how much attention you get from walking around shooting in NYC. There were guys whistling and yelling out some interesting things while we were shooting. I’m sure (I hope) I wasn’t the one that it was directed to.
Thanks for checking this one out. Look out for another blog post tomorrow….back to weddings!
