OK, this is it…I put it off long enough. Here is the grand finale of our weddings for the year (i think). I delayed this one like you delay eating that last piece of steak at dinner because once it’s done it’s just done.
So, for this blistery cold November wedding we headed down to Long Island (Roslyn), NY to The Swan Club. What made me drive over 160 miles out of Albany for a wedding? Well, this one was kind of special because I have known the bride for around 10+ years and it’s great to be invited to a friends wedding but even greater to be asked to capture her special day. It seems like only yesterday that I heard that she started hanging with John(Mizz) and she told me that he was the one.
After much planning and getting past a few road blocks the wedding day was here. We arrived at the Swan Club extra early to get tons of preparation photos and to hang out with the bride and the groom.
The unfortunate thing is that this was a November evening weddings and we couldn’t get any cool daylight photos (the plan to take pictures earlier in the day fell through). Well, any Wedding Photographer will tell you that to do this job you have to be able to improvise and make quick adjustments. So, we took most of the formals outdoors carrying around a flash on a light stand, a LED light and using the Swan Club’s outdoor lighting. So, even though it’s not my first choice, nighttime wedding photography is possible… it just takes a little more creativity.
It worked out to be a great wedding and everyone enjoyed it including myself. Congrats Sharon and Mizz!
I really like shots like this that tell a story. You can see the nervous anticipation in Sharon’s face before the ceremony (as we see before every wedding) and you could imagine the 101 things going through her mind. I have to mention that Baguettes Cosmetology did a great job on Sharon’s hair and makeup.
I was fortunate to get this shot…I didn’t even tell her to pose like this, but it ended up being one the best shots from the wedding. Not one of my usual shots, but I love this one…
Great floral arrangements from Shanelle at Taysha Florist. She came all the way from Albany to bring the flowers and to make sure everything was perfect.
I felt a little bad for Sharon and John since it was around 20 degrees outside. I could almost see ice forming on their noses. I’m happy that they pushed through it and I think they like the results of their frosty photo session.
Classic first dance shot..it’s pretty special to see the bride’s parents in the background looking on…
Fun dance floor shot…I’ll leave you with this last one of some garter belt fun…The groom was blind-folded and set up to believe that he was taking the garter off of his bride’s foot….poor guy was feeling on a big man-foot.I probably have a few small blogs coming before the end of December..stay tuned and Happy Holidays
